THE SKY ABOVE
Project/ Status:

“To be close to the outdoors,” he said. That was what being at home truly means for this lover of nature. Taking cues from this, shades of greys, browns and greens are used throughout to capture the layers of nature.
With a collection of treasured wood carvings, salvaged tree trunks and disused carved window screen, designing for the house involves careful mix of introducing the new and re-purposing the old. In the main living and dining, new stone-grey wall cladding bearing minimal grid outlines stood at opposite ends, framing up the furniture pieces placed between. Organic details are in turn provided by the restored timber items – now part of the house’s feature as wine cabinet doors, coffee table and entrance sculpture.
The heart of the house, however, lies in the upper roof deck. Linked by a playfully patterned staircase, the upper private retreat space houses an orchid gardening corner, a Jacuzzi and a fish pond. This is where the owner spends most of his time away – be it rain or shine, under the great vastness of the sky above.
